DR. CODY PALMER
Chief Executive Officer
Cody Palmer brings a unique blend of medical expertise, leadership experience, and heartfelt dedication to his role as CEO of Big Country Veterans. A doctor of physical therapy specializing in neurological rehabilitation, Palmer graduated from UT Southwestern Medical Center Dallas' inaugural doctorate program in 2009. His 15+ year career in health care, including executive leadership roles in the home health sector, has equipped him with the strategic vision and operational expertise needed to guide BCV's mission.
Palmer's journey began in 2016 as a volunteer at the helicopter hog hunt event, where he assisted veterans with mobility and care. What started as service quickly evolved into a deep-rooted passion for the veteran community. Witnessing firsthand the challenges veterans face when reintegrating into civilian life, Palmer was moved to take on a larger role, ultimately transitioning from board member to executive director and now CEO.
Growing up on a ranch in West Texas, Palmer developed an early appreciation for hard work, authenticity, and the power of community. These values, combined with the influence of his rancher father and special education teacher mother, shaped his dedication to serving others. His background in ranching and health care brings a distinctive perspective to BCV's mission of empowering veterans.
Under Palmer's leadership, Big Country Veterans continues to expand its impact through innovative programs and services. He envisions growing the organization's footprint while maintaining its commitment to providing meaningful, purpose-driven support for veterans and their families. His medical background informs BCV's approach to comprehensive veteran care, ensuring programs address both physical and mental well-being.
When he's not leading BCV, Palmer can be found coaching his son's sports teams, being a "professional dance dad" or pursuing outdoor adventures. An avid outdoorsman, he's conquered multiple 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado, including one climb alongside a Green Beret veteran with a prosthetic. His athletic background includes playing rugby for Texas Tech and Fort Worth, and he's been riding horses since age three. Active in his community, Palmer serves as a fourth-degree member and officer of the Knights of Columbus, having helped charter the council at his church.
He lives by Jennifer Lee’s quote "Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire". He believes in the power of authenticity to create lasting change.
Palmer's message to BCV supporters reflects his genuine gratitude: "Thank you for sharing your time, talents, and treasure to help those who put their lives on the line to ensure our country's freedoms. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the BCV Family."
